A Harlem heroin lord, Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) smuggles drugs into America by hiding it in coffins of American servicemen returning from the Vietnam War. He is extorted by corrupt policemen.
Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) is a Jewish detective who works to bring down Lucas. Unlike many colleagues he is not corrupt; once he found a million dollars of drug money, and did not keep any for himself. When Lucas is arrested they have partly a common goal: to expose the corrupt policemen who extorted him.
American Gangster is a 2007 crime film written by Steve Zaillian and directed by Ridley Scott. The film stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a real-life heroin kingpin from Harlem who smuggled the drug into the country in American service planes returning from the Vietnam War. Crowe portrays Richie Roberts, a detective who brings down Lucas’ drug empire.[2] Filming was done on location in New York City. American Gangster was released in the United States and Canada on November 2, 2007.
